#10 Ephraim T. Lewis Bible

Picture #1 is beleived to be a picture of Sarah Jane Lewis. The photo was originally in the possession of Ruth Mohler, a granddaughter of Sarah Jane Lewis. The picture was probably taken about 1885 when Sarah Jane was about age 53. The photo was from a 4" x 6" Cabinet Card. The original was torn at the bottom and the right corner, and most of the back of the card had been torn off.

Picture #2 is a picture of Edward D. Stiles, Son of William Stiles and Sarah Jane Lewis, and was also in the possession of Ruth Mohler. The picture was taken from a 2" x 4 1/2" Carte de visite and was from the studio of "A.L. Hilbert's, East Side Gallery, Fairfield, Iowa". Written also on the back is "Bro. Edward". This picture was evidently passed on to Ruth Mohler by Edward's Sister, Elizabeth Ann Stiles Mohler. The picture was probably taken about 1885.

Picture #3 is a picture of Mahlon Heston and Harriett Stiles. The picture was a postcard with the following evidently written by Harriett "your aunt and uncle Malon Heston & Harriet". The photo was probably taken about 1915 (strictly speculative), placing Harriett at about age 66. Harriett was a daughter of William Stiles and Sarah Jane Lewis. This picture was also in the possession of Ruth Mohler.

Picture #4 is a picture of Luther Stiles and his wife Anna Johanna Lieberenz. The back of the photo was labeled "Lu and Anna Stiles, taken in 1920". Luther (Lu) would have been age 65 at the time this photo was taken.

Picture #5 is a picture of the family of Mahlon Heston and Harriett Stiles. The photo is labeled "Briggs, W. Corner Square, Fairfield, Iowa". Top row is Charles, James, Harriet; Bottom row is Mahlon, Luther, & Ernest. The picture was probably taken about 1890. This is from a xerox copy of the originial in the possession of Vera Davis.

Picture #6 is a picture in the possession of Vera Davis. The picture was marked "Jane - Lizzie" on back. Perhaps this is a picture of Sarah Jane Lewis and two of her daughters.

Picture #7 is a photo of Andrew Jackson Mohler and Elizabeth Ann Stiles. The photo was taken in 1885, probably at their wedding or shortly before or after. Andrew was age 22 and Elizabeth, age 19. The wedding took place at the home of Elizabeth's Mother, Sarah Jane Lewis Stiles, in Fairfield, Jefferson, Iowa. A copy of the photo came from a negative in the possession of Carol Mohler Gifford. The original may have been a cabinet card.

Picture #8 is a picture of Andrew Jackson Mohler, Elizabeth Ann Stiles and their two eldest children, namely Louis Edgar Mohler and Laura Gertrude Mohler. The photo was evidently taken in about 1891 as Laura Gertrude looks to be about age 1. A copy of the photo came from a negative in the possession of Carol Gifford. The orignial may have been from a cabinet card. The photo was probably taken in Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa.

Picture #9 is a post card of Andrew Jackson Mohler and Elizabeth Ann Stiles. Exactly when the photo was taken is uncertain, but it was after the turn of the century. I would guess that it was taken about 1910 when Andrew was about age 47 and Elizabeth, about age 45.

Picture #10 is a copy of one of the pages from the Ephraim T. Lewis Bible. The bible shows the date of birth for Sarah Jane, as June the 7th 1829. The bible is in the possession of Charlene Lewis of Prospect, Kentucky.
