Harriet may also be a child of Horace Nathan Brown and Sarah Jane Lewis.
Sarah Jane Lewis apparently ran off with William Stiles in about 1850. She left her husband Horace Nathan Brown who had gone to California during the gold rush. Sarah Jane Lewis Brown was residing in the household of Horace Nathan Brown's Mother in the 1850 census with Laura and Harriett. William Styles was also residing in the household. According to family records, Laura was a step sister to Harriet, so William must have been the Father of Harriett, born in 1849. It appears that William Stiles and Sarah Jane Lewis Brown may have never married.
